What happened to the Pelican Motel?

The City of North Myrtle Beach acquired the property, and the motel buildings were demolished. City project materials from 2026 list demolition as complete and identify the site as the future Pelican Motel Parking project.

The former motel property has also been used as a staging area for beach-renourishment work. Conditions and access around the Sea Mountain Highway street end can change while public projects are underway, so follow all posted signs and crew instructions.

Where to stay instead

See our current Cherry Grove hotel guide for operating hotels and resorts. Always confirm current rates, parking, pet policies, resort fees, and cancellation terms directly with the property before booking.

Parking and beach access

Do not assume the former motel site is available for public parking. Use the City of North Myrtle Beach’s current beach-access and parking information and its parking FAQs to find an open public lot, current seasonal hours, and posted rates.
